There are distinct differences between males and females. Although both genders produce hormones as they age we see a decline in the production of hormones in the human body. In women, there is a gradual process that leads up to Menopause. This got me wondering, have you heard about male ‘menopause?’ is it real?

What is Male “Menopause?”

Unlike women, men do not go through an obvious and well-documented period referred to as menopause. As men age, they experience a decline in androgen (testosterone). The testosterone hormone is produced in the testes which helps trigger libido. It contributes to changes in adolescence, maintaining muscle mass and helps in developing physical and mental energy. The research that has been conducted indicates that on average after men turn age 30, begins 1% of testosterone decline. However, in most cases, a significant testosterone drop is experienced by men who are 50 and above.

Here is an interesting fact, not all men experience male menopause. But for women, it’s a different situation because all women will experience Menopause at some stage in their lives.

You are the food you eat

Throughout our lives, we have been encouraged about the importance of eating a balanced diet. Just take a moment and think about the state of your mental health, if you feel sad and depressed or you are not sleeping well. Your diet could be a good place to make changes. Start eating fruits and vegetables on a regular basis, drink enough water and try to avoid sugar and processed food.


Build exercise into your daily routine. Of course, you can’t begin with just running a marathon. Consider joining a hiking group or taking short walks after a meal will really go a long way. This will also be highly beneficial for your mental health too.

Learn how to manage stress better

Try to wean yourself off caffeine, alcohol and nicotine and rather focus on learning relaxation techniques. Stress management techniques like meditating and journaling will help keep some of life’s challenges at bay.
